Not much to report really. That’s what happens when you’re on holidays. Decided to beat the crush again, got up early, and wandered into the old town area. This time we worked the perimeter of the palace, and saw the green market, the meat market, and smelt the fish market, before heading down the Riva, and around to the ferry terminal.
It’s wonderful planning to have the ferry terminal, the bus terminal, and the train station adjacent to each other, and would work a treat in a mid sized town. However, Split is Croatia’s second biggest city, and it’s the middle of Summer. Take 3000 people arriving on a large cruise liner, add several thousand going in and out on ferry’s to Croatia’s other islands and nearby neighbours like Italy, probably 1000 people going on day cruises, 1000 people getting on and off buses in the 50 bus bays, and goodness knows how many using the trains, and you have chaos.
Most of the ferries take vehicles, so there are hundreds of cars, hundreds of buses, and thousands of people all congregated in a small space, and it’s madness. Adding our bit to the chaos, we found the number 18 bus, squashed our way on board, and headed off to the City Mall to do a bit of retail therapy, restocking things we were beginning to run out of.
Back home for lunch, then a late afternoon swim.
After tea we wandered back into town, and enjoyed the floodlit festivities of the Riva and the Old Town.
