Camooweal

Left about 8am, and were the last to leave though others were going north. Bought fuel at Three Ways, then turned east into the prevailing wind. Morning tea at the Frewena Rest Area, then topped up fuel at Barkly Homestead because of the headwind. Lunch at Soudan Bore, but ate inside due to the flies. Toilet stop at Avon Downs Rest Area, the last in NT and site of the final police station, before we bounced across the border and lost 30 mins. Stopped for the evening at our usual billabong spot on the western edge of Camooweal. A few people in, but not a patch on the busy season.…

Attack Creek

Started raining at 4am, and rained through pack up. Left at 8:15. Morning tea and stop for petrol at Dunmara. Diesel from the next pump ended up over my clothes, so I had to wash clothes and change before we moved on which took some time. Drove through Eliott with nary a glance – a great feeling. Lunch at a roadside truck stop, then arrived at camp site at Attack Ck mid afternoon. Repaired bed awning, and disemboweled the reversing camera to clean out the dust from within, so I could tell what was behind me. About a dozen caravans and campervans at the campsite.…

Mataranka

Walked for loop track at Edith Falls before we left. 1.5 hours up across the top of the cliffs to the Upper Pools which were open for swimming. Good views of the campground below. Drizzling rain, but better than Darwin where it was pouring due to Cyclone Francis passing by just offshore. Off to Katherine for morning tea and petrol. $1.29 /litre Arrived at Mataranka Hot Springs for late lunch and wallow in the springs for the afternoon. Cleared the inline water filter in the van, trying to improve the flow. Cloudy with occasional drizzle which made it bearable in the van.…

Left Darwin Goin’ South

Left about 10:15 which was pretty good considering we hadn’t hooked up the van in nine months. Short run to Adelaide River for a late morning tea, and a check of all the car and van systems. Pine Creek for a late lunch at the old Railway Station. Edith Falls mid afternoon to spend the night. $12 p.n. per adult. No power or water, but quite empty. Came across another family of Daws in the only other caravan at the falls. Lower pool closed for swimming due to possibility of crocodiles.
